Nestled between Calle Ocho and Coral Way is the city of West Miami. Measuring only three-quarters of a mile, the town was founded in 1947 by four businessmen who decided to incorporate the city when Miami-Dade County wanted to reduce the cocktail hours and ban gambling rooms. Towards the end of World War II, when Florida was beginning to develop, land was being given away by the government as an incentive for people to settle there. Many soldiers returning from the war took advantage of the free lots and built their homes in West Miami. Beginning with only 700 residents, West Miami now has 6,132 residents.

Since it's modest beginnings, West Miami has maintained a high standard for residential and business community. It is proud to boast about its strong sense of community, excellent park and recreational facilities and exceptional schools. It's close to two major Universities, and the Miccosukee Indian reservation. West Miami has a large number of gated and un-gated communities in its residential areas and superb shopping centers. Its close proximity to the Downtown area of Miami and Miami International Airport makes it a popular suburban community in Miami-Dade County.

There are many local parks, waterways, community centers and golf courses within a short distance of most neighborhoods. Residents take part in a variety of community events during the year. Residents are close to the Tamiami Airport, the Miami Zoo and the ocean. West Miami's attractive housing opportunities make this area and its welcoming neighborhoods a popular place to live.
