Sweetwater Real Estate

Sweetwater borders the eastern edge of the Florida Everglades. Sweetwater was founded in 1941 and was named after the pure water of the Everglades, which some residents described as being sweet. For most of its existence, Sweetwater was a sleepy town with farms, horse stables, and small grocery stores. The 1970's; however, saw a rapid change in the character of Sweetwater. The Florida International University Campus was built just south of town. The Florida Turnpike and State Road 836 expressway created easy access from Sweetwater to the rest of the county. The desire of residents of Miami-Dade County to move away from the dense urban sprawl helped add to the rapid growth of Sweetwater.

Sweetwater maintains a unique "small-town" atmosphere with all the urban amenities. It is made up of planned communities gated and un-gated mixed in with older established homes and communities. The city has an abundance of family activities and parks and is well known for its friendly relaxed atmosphere. The area has a large mainly Hispanic population of 14,226 but its population is increasing as its ethnic composition becomes more diverse.

A business district, a thriving agricultural industry, commerce areas and surrounding attractions make the Sweetwater area a popular place to call home. Upscale gated communities and new housing developments complement charming older neighborhoods. Innovative schools, lushly landscaped parks and renovated shopping areas enhance the quality of life. An emphasis on providing and maintaining open spaces for parks and recreational activities, the development of beautiful residential areas combined with a well planned and regulated commercial community, continue to make Sweetwater an ideal place to call home. The city is only a short drive to world class Golf, Spa, and Gaming resorts of Doral and The Miccosukee Golf & Country Club.

Sweetwater is right in the middle of it all. Close to the finest nightlife restaurants and boutiques. It is surrounded by the world renowned cities of Miami, Coconut Grove and Miami Beach and is only 30 minutes away Miami International Airport. The city also offers proximity to a host of recreational activities including: Metrozoo, Vizcaya Museum and Gardens, Parrot Jungle and Gardens, the Miami Museum of science and Planetarium and the brand New Miami Children's Museum. With the sprawling expanse of the Everglades to the west, the pristine Biscayne National Park to the east, the glitz and glamour of Miami to the north and the Florida Keys to the south, Sweetwater offers something for everyone.
