Princeton Real Estate

Princeton is located in Miami-Dade County, just outside of Leisure City. Princeton is a small area in the southern part of the County with a population of 10,090 and a median household income of $39,556. The community was named by several residents after their alma mater. It is proud to boast a strong sense of community, excellent park and recreational facilities and exceptional schools. It has a large number of gated and un-gated communities in its residential areas and superb shopping centers close to the Downtown area of Miami making it a popular suburban community in Miami-Dade County.

The area south of Miami was opened to homesteaders in the late 1800's. A path known as the Homesteader's Trail was the only route in and out until railroad and oil magnate Henry Flagler extended his railway south to the area. Later, Flagler extended his railroad from the Princeton area (Homestead) to Key West and the Overseas Railroad was completed in 1912. Princeton's major source of revenue at that time was agriculture, with the harvest of winter vegetables and tropical fruits being shipped all across the country. Due to its strategic location, the Princeton area prospered with the Florida real estate boom in the early 1920s. In 1926, a major hurricane unleashed its fury, destroying Flagler's overseas railway. In 1945 another severe hurricane struck and demolished the World War II airfield at what is now Homestead Air Reserve Base.

Almost 50 years later, in 1992, Hurricane Andrew blew through south Miami-Dade County leaving a wave of destruction in its path. True to the pioneer spirit that created the area, the people of South Miami-Dade picked up and rebuilt and restored. The community has focused on revitalizing its neighborhoods, preserving and renovating historic buildings, establishing new businesses. The antique shops along Krome Avenue form a charming district, one that is part of a designated Main Street Community of the Florida Bureau of Historic Preservation.

Princeton is right in the middle of it all. Close to the finest nightlife restaurants and boutiques. The Miami International Airport is just 30 minutes away. Princeton also offers proximity to a host of recreational activities including: Metrozoo, Vizcaya Museum and Gardens, Parrot Jungle and Gardens, the Miami Museum of science and Planetarium and the brand New Miami Children's Museum. With the sprawling expanse of the Everglades to the west, the pristine Biscayne National Park to the east, the glitz and glamour of Miami to the north and the Florida Keys to the south, Princeton offers something for everyone.
