Plantation Real Estate

Located in western Broward County, Plantation offers all the amenities of a large city, but with the safety and security of a smaller, "hometown" community. There are recreation and meeting facilities to indulge every taste and price range, nationally recognized athletics programs, two Olympic-sized swimming pools, an abundance of tennis courts and golf courses, restaurants ranging from conventional to exotic and an assortment of superior hotel accommodations. And for sports fans, within a short drive you can watch professional football, baseball, basketball and hockey teams in action. Plantation was born as a suburb of Fort Lauderdale, its charm, beauty of natural surroundings, and prime location near major roadways have caused it to grow into a flourishing city in its own right.

In 1931, the founding father of Plantation, Frederick C. Peters, and his family moved to South Dade County (modern day Miami-Dade County) from Missouri. He discovered that the Plantation area had a subterranean irrigation system consisting of layered muck sand and rock. This type of condition is ideal for plowing and the necessary cultivate for the growth of crops and grass. Broward County was still relatively uninhabited until the 1940s. Although the City of Plantation was not even a conception yet, the area was nicknamed Plantation because many large tracts of land were purchased by city dwellers, who called them "plantations".

Zoning ordinances require green spaces around buildings and buffer zones among differing types of structures. The park system features Deicke Auditorium and Central Park, which is a large complex featuring both baseball and football fields, a swimming pool and tennis courts. Today, the city has a population of 84,500 with 55 diverse cultures and major employers that include American Express, Motorola, Florida Power and Light, Plantation General Hospital and Westside Regional Medical Center. The city has one of the few municipal libraries in a county where most libraries are regionally operated.

Entertainment ranges from the Boat Show or Air & Sea Show along famed Fort Lauderdale Beach to Florida Panthers hockey team in Sunrise. In between enjoy rodeos in Davie, jazz festivals in Riverwalk, the annual International Film Festival and assorted arts and food festivals throughout Broward County. Each December, Fort Lauderdale hosts the sparkling Winterfest Boat Parade.
