The city of Miami Gardens is conveniently located in the north-central corner of Miami-Dade right on the edge of the Broward County line. The city was incorporated on May 13, 2003, as the 33rd city in Miami-Dade County. At a population of 105,457, it is the third largest city in Miami-Dade County (after Miami and Hialeah). Miami Gardens is located in North-Central region of the county, mid-way between Fort Lauderdale and Miami, and is easily accessed by I-95, the Palmetto Expressway and the Florida Turnpike. The city comprises approximately 20 square miles. Miami Gardens is one of Miami-Dade's most ethnically diverse communities. It is a solid, working class community with distinctive diversity.

The main business district is along Miami Gardens Drive and 27th Avenue, the 183rd St. Flea Market sits, is a must-stop on weekends. In the business district, shoppers can find several small restaurants, clothing and travel shops that cater to Caribbean and Latin markets, or they can buy fruit, seafood and even furniture from vendors who set up shop along the roadside.

Miami Gardens is home to Dolphin Stadium, where the Miami Dolphins and the Florida Marlins play their home games. Calder Race Course is also located close by and Miami and Fort Lauderdale Airports are only 30 minutes away. It has vibrant commercial corridors along the Palmetto Expressway that serve as the central shopping district for the furniture trade and along 441 serving the automobile trade.

The city has rail access through the South Florida Tri-Rail System. Miami Gardens enjoys an active recreation department. Residents benefit from many community programs or enjoy activities and events held by the city throughout the year. There is a bustling community center and fantastic park grounds that include a large tot-lot and a playground area suited for children of elementary school age. The city parks boast baseball, softball and soccer fields, and organized children's sports programs.

To the South you will find internationally renowned Downtown Miami and Miami Beach with their glitz and glamour. North is the fabulous city of Fort Lauderdale with its nightlife, dining and entertainment. Miami Gardens is right in the middle of it all, offering proximity to a host of recreational activities including: Countless art museums and cultural attractions, Metrozoo, Parrot Jungle and Gardens, the Miami Museum of Science and Planetarium and the brand New Miami Children's Museum.
