Key Biscayne Real Estate

Located in Miami-Dade County off the Rickenbacker Causeway, over Virginia Key, past the Miami Seaquarium, Key Biscayne lies just six miles off the coast of Miami. The island itself is seven miles long and two miles wide. Incorporated as a Village in 1991, the Village of Key Biscayne covers 1.25 square miles bordered by Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park to the south and Crandon Park to the north. Key Biscayne is a world-class resort community and premier vacation destination. It was featured in Worth Magazine's "250 Richest Towns 2001" and has been ranked in the "Top 5 Permanent Vacation Spots" in the United States of America by Standard and Poors, and boasts ywo of the "10 best beaches."

Rich in history, culture, and activities, Key Biscayne, has it all. This unique community was first put on the map in 1513, when Juan Ponce de Leon officially discovered the island, naming it Santa Marta, and claimed it for the Spanish King. He filled his ships' barrels with fresh water and set out to sea again, but a navigational error caught Spanish plate ships on the treacherous coral reef, spilling silver and gold treasure still sought today by divers and beachcombers. Since that time the island has changed hands many times, from England to Spain and from Span to America. Early in the 20th Century, two-thirds of the island was established as a coconut plantation, the largest in the continental United States. Unusual palms and fine flowering and fruiting hardwoods from tropical Asia, Africa and Latin America were introduced and showcased. Plantation guests, arriving by yacht, described the private island as a romantic paradise out of the South Seas or West Indies.

This unique barrier island lies just across Biscayne Bay from Coral Gables and only 30 minutes from Miami International Airport. The active Port of Miami and the action-packed nightlife of Miami Beach are only a 15 minute drive. Key Biscayne offers a multitude of activities for all different lifestyles. Weather you enjoy lying in a hammock and listening to the rustle of palm fronds in the ocean breeze, a stroll along the sandy shore of the Atlantic, or deep sea fishing, and riding a jet skis, Key Biscayne has something for everyone. There is park area called Village Green where the children can play in a water fountain and on the playground. The Village Green is adjacent to the brand new multi-million dollar Key Biscayne Community Center with popular amenities including a gym, indoor basketball and heated pool.

Miles of beautiful beaches and natural settings can be enjoyed by bike, rollerblading, scooters, and of course let's not forget the watersports and the charter boats and some of the best fishing or scuba diving is just right off of shore on amazing artificial reefs made from everything from tug boats to Airplanes. Key Biscayne is an oasis right in the middle of it all. Close to the finest nightlife restaurants and boutiques Miami has to offer.
