Located in central Miami-Dade County, Glenvar Heights is just east of Kendall lakes. The median household income is $40,209 and the population is 16,243. It is south of downtown Miami and Coral Gables and north of Kendall. Close enough to have all the amenities of a large metropolitan area and suburban enough to retain the small town values that make it a desirable place to live. Readily accessible by the Florida Turnpike and Highway US 1 it is a diversified community offering a varying range of income levels, business opportunities and recreational amenities.

Glenvar Heights was originally part of the city of South Miami, founded by an early land owner of the area, W.A. Larkins who owned property west of Red Road and Sunset Drive. He built the first grocery store in the area, and as the community grew, a post office was placed in the community. Larkins became the first Postmaster, and the community took the name of "Larkins". A depot was placed along the Florida East Coast Railway. The original town boundaries were Red Road on the east, Kendall Drive to the south, Palmetto Road to the west (now Palmetto Expressway), and Bird Road to the north. In 1933, the original six square miles were reduced to just over three miles due to an effort to reduce municipal responsibilities.

Today Glenvar Heights is a vibrant family oriented community. It is proud to boast about its strong sense of community, excellent park and recreational facilities and exceptional schools. The majority of the city consists of planned communities gated and un-gated with strict ordnances and codes governing property appearance and neighborhood upkeep. It also has an abundance of family activities and parks and is well known for its friendly relaxed atmosphere.

Coconut Grove, South Beach, Downtown Miami, Miami Beach and The Miami International Airport are just minutes away. Doral also offers proximity to a host of recreational activities including: Metrozoo, Vizcaya Museum and Gardens, Parrot Jungle and Gardens, the Miami Museum of science and Planetarium and the brand New Miami Children's Museum.
